Mr. Derek Lee   

Derek Lee has more than 35 years of experience in the ICT market from engineering to business. Currently he is a career coacher, mentor, and advisor, dedicating his career to social innovation and nurture bright young minds to advance in the fast-paced technological environment.  He is currently an Honorary Advisor of Hong Kong Electronics & Technologies Association (HKETA) since 2023.

Derek, as a Founder and Director of a technology start-up from 2008-2020, managed business and product development, specializing in design & develop network product solution including network security products and multi-WAN IP service gateway to optimize network resiliency and quality of IP service for Japan & Asia Pacific.

Prior to his start-up, he has more than 10 years with various management positions in number of US technology corporations, Premisys Communication, Amplify.net, Metrobility Optical Systems (acquired by Telco Systems in 2006) from 1996-2007.  He managed regional sales & support, strategic partnership and new business development from scratch for Asia’s telecom markets as to maintain an Asian headquarter in Hong Kong SAR.  Derek has strong acumen in developing network business in ICT sector.  He also served as a technology consultant in a public-listed Japanese network corporation from 2003-2007 to transform her trading-oriented business into technology development.

Prior to his regional experience, he has 15 years of professional engineering experience of telecom network development in Hong Kong Telecom/PCCW, engaging various engineering roles in digital transmission, signaling, and broadband network infrastructure design.

Derek holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering with First Class Honor from City University of Hong Kong under Hong Kong Telecom’s professional engineer scholarship scheme.  He is the Member of IET and IEEE.  He was Vice Chairman & Youth Chairman from 2016 to 2019 and Chairman of Startup & Mentorship Sub-committee of HKETA from 2019-2022 respectively.  He founded Innovate for Future (IFF) platform in 2019 to foster technological and social innovations for our young talents in Hong Kong SAR.
